Phantoccini was founded in September 2012 in Krasnodar (Russia) by Alexandr 'Diomid' Demidov and Alexandr 'Bond' Bondarenko, who already had to play in a number of gothic and alternative bands by that time. The band's name is the author's terminology woven from two words: 'phantom' and 'fantoccini'. It means 'phantom theatre of marionettes' and carries a social subtext and reflects the realities of modern society (in the opinion of musicians). Lyrics are about personal experiences and also they affect a social themes. Being a duet for a long time, Phantoccini were in the shadow and didn't give live performances. But situation has changed a bit in 2015 with the arrival of Andrey 'Andrew' Didenko as bass-guitarist, who greatly enriched the band's sound. Now Phantoccini is characterized by the old school goth rock guitar sound, electronic drums with synth goth and darkwave influences.
